05  Finding your Purpose with Katie Newman

05 Take the Right Action

Welcome back to our final video in this mini-series on how to create a purpose-led business.

You’ve done such great work so far - discovering and defining your values, beliefs and strengths, articulating your purpose, vision and mission, and examining your business to ensure that your practices align with your purpose.

In this final video, we’re going to move you into action mode. We’ve spent some really valuable time thinking and reflecting, but now is the time to make this real and get stuck into doing it. In the last video you generated lots of ideas of the things you could do to build your purpose-led business.

The important thing now is to decide what you are going to do, and actually do it. So make sure you’ve got the ideas that you generated in the last video handy.

EXERCISE

Now the first thing I want you to do is look at your list of ideas, activities and initiatives that you came up with for ‘marketing’, and:

  • Put a little ‘q’ next to the idea which is the quickest win
  • Put a little ‘i’ next to the most impactful idea on your list
  • Put a little ‘e’ next to the most enjoyable idea
  • Put a little ‘u’ next to the most urgent idea
  • Then I want you to draw a line through the idea which you definitely don’t want to do.

Then I want you to put a circle around the first idea you’re going to implement and take action on. Make sure it’s clearly marked. Once you’ve done that exercise for marketing, I’d like you to do the same exercise again for each of the six key business functions you have a list of ideas for.

Pause the video now and then come back to once you’ve completed the exercise.

Fabulous! Well done everyone. How do you feel? You’ve just generated for yourself six purpose-led actions that you’re going to go away and take which will ensure that you’re on track to create a powerful purpose-led business that will bring you happiness, fulfilment and success.

Now the last thing I want you to do is next to each of those six actions - write down how you’re going to do it, and when you’re going to do it.

And then once you’ve done that, again ensure that you keep your list safe and visible so that it is a constant reminder to you to keep working on those six things. And once you’ve done them, you’ve already generated for yourself a whole list of other ideas you can come back and pick from next.

Well done everyone, I’m super proud of you for completing these five videos and for taking such big steps forward in building your purpose-led business. In a very short space of time, you’ve not only identified your values, beliefs and strengths, you’ve also articulated your purpose, mission and vision, generated ideas for how you can integrate purpose more into your business and created for yourself an action plan that will turn those ideas into reality.

By now I also know that you will be thinking differently too, you will have connected with your purpose, and have a much deeper understanding of who you are and what your business is about. You will also have unlocked extra motivation for yourself by tapping into the reason you do what you do.

I’m so delighted that I’ve been able to play a small part in your journey and I’m really excited for you to now go out and grow your businesses. I’d love to hear from you and find out what business you’re building and why.

I’d love for you to drop me an email and share your purpose, it’s always such an inspiration for me to hear about the fantastic, impactful businesses people are building, businesses that will make the world a better place.
